Inner RePatterning – Combining Intention with Pure Awareness

By Tania Prince, EFT Master

J has been suffering from depersonalization and de-realization for 30 years. Below are J’s comments after attending an Inner Repatterning Training Course.

“My illness is little known but on the way home, “I saw ‘some real cows’ and actually felt being “present and in the moment in that very overpriced “Services!”””   Then this morning -  rather than lying in bed due to lack of motivation I actually  experienced being  “in that space – no judgment -  no guilt and a sense of calm in my brain which I have not experienced for maybe  thirty plus years”.

This is by no means all that needs to be done to help J resolve her issue; however it is a very significant progress especially considering that a training course is a very difference situation than one to one therapy. The course aims to pass on knowledge but often has the additional bonus of resolving and healing issues.

A’s comments after attending Inner RePatterning Therapy

Significant results were achieved with the issue during a one hour session. A, then attended a follow-up one hour session.

“Just a few months ago I felt desperate and depressed, and showed signs of post traumatic stress, cognitive dissonance and Stockholm syndrome, having been in a relationship for some years with a low conscience disordered sociopath. I had no-where to turn having searched high and low for someone who could understand and help me. I approached many counselors and hypnotherapy professionals over a two year period, however their treatments and therapies were lengthy, complex and in vain.

Then I came across Tania’s amazing Inner Repatterning therapy. The results have been truly amazing! I can’t express enough how much this therapy has helped me change my life around. I feel I have me back again! Our sessions allowed me to really focus and unearth deep rooted emotions and beliefs which were extremely damaging to me at the time. After just a couple of sessions I felt like a different person, a stronger person and I am now more aware of myself, my emotions and my healthy boundaries due to the therapy”.

Introduction to Inner RePatterning

Below is a brief introduction to Inner RePatterning. I have done my best to write this as clearly as possible in order to give you a sense of the process. It is however easier to understand if you hear a session or better still, see it in action. This process is very simple. I hope I have conveyed that in my languaging. So with that said, I hope you enjoy the article.

What is Inner RePatterning?

Inner RePatterning is a simple approach to therapy. A key idea behind the Inner RePatterning approach is that the mind/ body system knows how to heal itself. Therefore all we have to do is provide the right conditions for a natural healing process to occur. With this in mind Inner RePatterning combines the use of setting powerful intentions with accessing a state of pure awareness. Basically in EFT terms we have to get ourselves “out of the way”.

Inner RePatterning does not require that you understand or analyze. Neither does it require that you find words that represent your problem.  It is a “Now” based approach that does not require talking about or finding past events.

EFT, Inner RePatterning

Although Inner RePatterning was developed from EFT, it has deviated from it in many different ways. These include the fact that whilst EFT uses tapping on multiple points on the body, Inner RePatterning only uses one tapping point, which is the Thymus point located on the chest. This is also the higher heart chakra point. The thymus gland is thought to control the energy flow through the meridians. It is key to creating balance and harmony.

How to do Utilize Inner RePatterning – Setting the Scene

Prior to using the Inner RePatterning process we let the client know that they do not need to analyze, try to understand their problem or the process.

Using a metaphor is great for effectively communicating this. One that I have used is, when you have a problem with your car, do you have to tell the mechanic detail by detail what to do? No! If you do, I would recommend you change your mechanicJ.  Or do you merely have to let them know what is happening and then instruct them to do the job!

By combining the power of Intention with the state of pure awareness, we are effectively giving an instruction highlighting what we want. In the case of Inner RePatterning, that instruction is for us to be in a place of “Inner Peace and Joy, Now”.  Healing takes place from a place of “pure awareness”. When we are in a state of “pure awareness” we are out of our own way.

Establishing the Problem and How to Test

The first thing we do when working with Inner RePatterning is establish what the problem is that we want to work upon. Then we ask, “What needs to happen to let me (you) know that you no longer have this problem?”

So far we have:

  • Set the Scene by pre-framing the Inner RePatterning process (This is to give the person an understanding of the process before using it)
  • Established the problem and how to test

Now we need to begin using Inner RePatterning.

How to Do Inner RePatterning – The Process

As I have already mentioned, Inner RePatterning only uses one tapping point, the thymus point. So now we begin the process by gently tapping with our finger pads on this point, whilst we draw our awareness to our breathing, allowing ourselves to breathe more deeply. As we do that we gently access the peripheral vision state (you could also call this a state of expanded awareness). We access peripheral vision when we draw our awareness to the periphery and begin to notice whatever is to our sides. There should be no strain when you access this visual state, just a soft gentle awareness on the periphery of the vision. All of this serves to create quietness within the mind. It also serves to allow access to the part of the mind necessary to create healing, this can be done just as effectively with the eyes closed and some clients may prefer to do this.

Whilst we are in this state, one which we call the “safe place” we set a powerful intention for what we want to happen during the process. That intention is that we intend to heal anything that stops us being in a place of “inner peace and joy, now”. The reason that “inner peace and joy, now” is chosen as the desired state, is for its energetic value. If you think about it if for example you were in a state of pain now, it is highly unlikely you are in a state of true “inner peace and joy, now”. Also if you are financially struggling or lacking confidence again it is highly unlikely you are in a true state of “inner peace and joy, now”. “Inner peace and joy, now” is the default setting. Why don’t we have people setting their own personal state? The simple reason for this is because many people aim for far less than is possible. Many are limited by their current thinking which is part of their problem state and some simply don’t know that they can easily think in a more useful way.

To introduce Inner RePatterning, set the safe place and intention, it only takes a few moments. Now we are ready to work on the problem.

Now that the client (or we if we are working on our self) is in a safe place, we ask the client to become aware of “how they know they have this problem”. How do we know that we have a problem? Simple, we may have a memory or physical sensation or thought etc. These are how we know we have a problem, so with Inner Repatterning we draw the awareness to this. Then as we put our awareness on this we have a sense of putting whatever we have our awareness on, outside of ourselves so that we can witness it. So as we witness it and have our awareness on it, we stop resisting it. Resistance is energy, basically when we release our resistance we stop feeding the problem. We also tap to release the judgment and criticism we hold of what we are witnessing.

Now that we have done this, we draw our awareness to what we are now experiencing inside of ourselves. Now this could be something as simple as the thought, “I can’t release my judgment”, or maybe an image comes into the mind or maybe a physical sensation. Whatever it is, that is now “put outside” and we witness that whilst we are in the “safe place”.

We continue with this process putting outside of ourselves whatever emerges until we begin to experience more positive and comfortable feelings and states. When this happens we stop tapping. We put our hand over our heart and we allow our awareness to be on this more positive experience.

After a moment of doing this, we then begin to tap again, become aware of the more positive experience and have a sense of putting that outside of ourselves, and put it to the side to make a distinction between that and the other things we have put out.

Now we draw our awareness back to what we are experiencing within ourselves. The reason that we do this is because we want to make sure that we are going very deep and clearing out all that needs to be cleared out. That the positive feeling is not masking something deeper that needs to be cleared out.

We continue to go through this process until positive feeling after positive feeling emerges. Or until the person feels that they have what they want.

At this point, we can go back to the mechanism we set at the beginning to evaluate our results and test.

This is a very brief over view of Inner RePatterning. The process that I have set out above for many will get the desired result. Others may need to add in an extra component we added for when people get stuck.
